The company that brought Offshore Solar in high waves from a (perceived) impossibility to a reality.
About us
Oceans of Energy is the worldwide leader in offshore solar,. We are the first and only company in the world to install & operate an offshore solar farm system in high waves. This system is located in the North Sea, the roughest sea in the world, and has survived many storms since its deployment in 2019 such as Bella, Dennis, Eunice, Franklin, Corrie, Evert and extratropical cyclone Ciara . We have expanded it and continue expanding to a multi megawatt scale. Our vision is to deliver offshore solar farms to coastal areas and islands, bringing abundant, clean and affordable energy worldwide.

Hello from Oslo! This week we participated in one of the final sessions on shaping the new #guidelines for floating solar at DNV's office in Hovik Oslo. These first guidelines in the world mark a significant milestone, being the world’s first to also focus on #offshoresolar. With the vast potential of offshore solar on the horizon, there’s a pressing need for such standards. Oceans of Energy is proud to be part of this #JointIndustryProject, contributing to the development of new guidelines for anchoring, mooring and floats for floating (and offshore) solar. If you're interested in learning more about our quest reach out to Fabian Koppes and Laura Colomer. 📖Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eDRTTRim #guidelines #offshoresolar #renewableenergy #energytransition

#OffshoreSolar scaling up to #Gigawatts! Oceans of Energy together with fifteen leading European partners announce the start of an EU #JointIndustryProject, in which #offshoresolar technology is scaled up to standard formats of 150 MW enabling to build #GigawattScale farms. These building blocks are to become a new standard in offshore energy farms. Placing solar farms within offshore wind farms makes better use of the sea space, increases energy output, provides more continuous power over the seasons, and will drive down costs for green electricity production and the energy system. “Oceans of Energy is proud to advance offshore solar further towards a real #gamechanger in the renewable energy transition, by bringing these standardized, large scale offshore solar farms to the world,” says Allard van Hoeken, Founder and CEO of Oceans of Energy. He continues: “Offshore solar is becoming a major contributor to the energy transition in the North Sea. We are kickstarting the development of a standardized offshore solar building block, which fits right in-between four offshore wind turbines. This allows for optimized #MultiSourceOffshoreEnergy farms without competing for scarce and limited land space.”. Oceans of Energy is a pioneer in offshore solar, the company deployed the first in the world offshore solar farm for high waves in the rough Dutch North Sea in 2019. The company is building the first offshore solar farm to be installed within the Shell/Eneco Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm in the #NorthSea. Its mission is to bring clean and abundant renewable energy in harmony with nature to people living along the coasts worldwide. “This project will contribute to enable feasible business cases of solar renewable energy offshore”, states Andrea Bombardi, Carbon Reduction Excellence Executive Vice President of RINA. “RINA, thanks to the leading experience in the provision of energy yield assessment services for solar plants and in floating offshore systems, will pioneer the development of a new predictive yield model applicable to this emerging technology. We will bring to the project our competence in ground-native solutions offshore, in static and dynamic analysis on dynamic export cables, in comparative analysis between different power export layouts, in the definition of recycling strategies for PVs and electrical components at the end of their life, and in the coordination of EU-funded projects.” The BAMBOO Project, funded by CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, had a successful kick-off meeting Campusatsea. We are very excited to work with these celebrated partners to jointly scale up offshore solar! "Offshore wind achieved great things, and now #OffshoreSolar is about to do the same." states Allard van Hoeken: "There was a great announcement at #HollandseKustNoord that Oceans of Energy will build the #first solar park there. Another highlight was Rob Jetten saying "Let’s make sure the innovations used for CrossWindHKN become the starting point for all future wind parks."." Last week, the celebration of the operational opening of windfarm #HollandseKustNoord marked a significant milestone for the completion of the #RoadmapWindopZee2023. Our partner CrossWindHKN, grid operator TenneT, and Ministry of Economics and Climate, made this nice #wrapup of the event including an interview with Oceans of Energy Founder and CEO Allard van Hoeken. This collaborative effort between wind and solar represents a harmonious blend, and we at Oceans of Energy are honored to contribute with the first offshore solar farm integrated in an offshore wind project. Here is to the success of #HollandseKustNoord, the prosperity of CrossWindHKN and the bright future of combined offshore wind and solar energy! 💨☀️ #RoadmapWindofZee2023 #CrossWind #HollandseKustNoord #wind&solar #offshoresolar #offshorewind #renewableenergy #energytransition
Borssele, Hollandse Kust Zuid and Hollandse Kust Noord The offshore wind industry, together with grid operator TenneT TSO B.V., have successfully completed the Dutch Offshore Wind Roadmap 2023. An achievement we can all be incredibly proud of. In the last ten years, a coalition of companies, government agencies, civil society organisations, interest groups and other stakeholders have been building an additional 4,5GW operational capacity in the Dutch North Sea. Offshore wind now provides 16% of current Dutch electricity demand. Marielle Hetem, Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat (Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy): "Each day, everyone worked really hard to take the next step. We achieved and learned a lot in the last ten years." Tjalling de Bruin, CrossWindHKN adds: "Where there's a will, there's a way. We found our way by close collaboration." And what is better than celebrating this great milestone with partners and stakeholders at Fabrique des Lumières Amsterdam! Many thanks to Jbace eventmanagement, MatZwart and addikt for making this unique experience possible. #POSAnniversary #OffshoreSolar #RenewableEnergy #CollaborationInnovation #energytransition

Allard van Hoeken, Founder and CEO of Oceans of Energy, expects the #floatingsolar market to be really big, as big as the #onshoresolar sector. At #OEEC2023, Van Hoeken stated that floating solar is an “offshore engineer’s dream”, maintenance will be much lower than in #offshorewind, there are no moving parts, and monitoring and maintenance technologies will be different since they can be done much more remotely. ⬇️Watch the full session on multi-source #offshoreenergy parks, also featuring speakers from DMEC (Dutch Marine Energy Centre), SolarDuck, FLASC B.V. and The North Sea Foundation (Stichting De Noordzee): #marineenergy #renewableenergy #renewables #solarenergy

We are happy to share our recently released peer-reviewed publication on the marine growth that was sampled and analyzed by Wageningen Marine Research on world's first offshore solar farm in high waves, installed in the North Sea in 2019 by Oceans of Energy. In this paper we report on the temporal colonization patterns and community changes of the fauna growing on the bottom of our floaters that were treated with various eco-friendly anti-fouling techniques. Even though the fouling communities had not yet reached their final successional stage by the time of the last sampling event, we can be reasonably sure to conclude that there were no significant differences in the antifouling tests. All floaters saw an increase in species richness, and, during our regular inspections we also observed an increase in the presence of fish, being attracted by the floating reef that was being formed! We soon realized this floating reef effect could be an opportunity, as the marine growth was - and still is - not jeopardizing the structural integrity of our floaters. This pioneering research has solidified our belief that our design provides an exciting nature-enhancing opportunity for the local ecosystem. Our environmental research team is determined to keep monitoring and quantifying these effects in the coming years. We thank Wageningen Marine Research for their long-lasting partnership and excellent scientific work and give special thanks to Joop Coolen, Ninon Mavraki and Oscar Bos for their pioneering mindset and help out in the field!
